Disgraced Former Subway Spokesman Pays Money to Victims
In the wake of the large scandal that broke a few months ago, involving former Subway spokesman Jared Fogel, it is now coming to light that he has paid money to some of his victims. Fogel was found to have been in possession of child pornography and it came to light that he had sexual intercourse with minors.
His sentencing comes next month, but before his trial, it was announced that he has paid 11 of his victims a sum of $100,000 each. That is about $1.1 million. But he is not done yet. Before his court date on November 19th, he is expected to pay out more, which is supposed to bring his total to $1.4 million when all is said and done.
He has plead guilty on all of this counts, as evidence showed those minors he had sexual relations with were between the ages of 10 and 17, back then, when it occurred, and now four of them are legal adults. All 14 victims will be receiving the money which will be used toward their counseling and any medicalsupport or treatments they may need.
The money was totaled and based on what prosecution felt could make up for what happened, as well as what Fogel could actually pay. While this is no large amount of money, it does show those victims that the legal system is on their side, and that they believe they were wronged in many ways.
Paying the restitution upfront is rare, but goes to validate the fact that Fogel was indeed in the wrong and knew it. The victims can go about their life trying to get back to a sense of life had none of this happened, though sadly; it will never be the case.
