Former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg officially notified the court that attorney Alina Habba will no longer represent him in a fraud case in New York.

Days ahead of Donald Trump’s criminal hush-money trial in New York, paperwork was filed in a separate case where Trump was found liable for fraud after manipulating the value of his assets. The documents were filed in the Supreme Court of New York, County of New York.

“IT IS HEREBY CONSENTED THAT MORIAN Law PLLC, 60 East 42nd Street, Suite 4600, New York, NY 10165, be substituted as counsel of record for Defendant, Allen Weisselberg, in place and stead of Habba Madaio & Associates LLP, 112 West 34th St, 17th & 18th Floors, New York, NY 10120,” the filing said.

Weisselberg, a former chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, has been a key figure in Donald Trump’s business empire for decades.

In March, he pleaded guilty to lying during his testimony in Trump’s fraud trial and is expected to be sentenced to five months in prison.

In 2022, Weisselberg had pleaded guilty to 15 criminal charges, including grand theft, criminal tax fraud, and falsifying business records. This plea came after investigations into the Trump Organization’s financial practices.

As a result, he began serving a jail sentence in January 2023 and was released in April 2023.

Additionally, a ruling in February 2024 banned him from serving in any financial control function in New York corporations or businesses and from being a director or officer in any New York corporation or business for three years.

By September 2021, Trump hired Habba as part of his legal team, replacing several long-standing lawyers. Since then, she has represented Trump in numerous high-profile cases, including lawsuits against The New York Times, Trump’s niece Mary L. Trump, and defamation cases. Habba was also brought on by Weisselberg.

Habba has also defended Trump in investigations into his business practices and the Carroll v. Trump case regarding comments about E. Jean Carroll.

Weisselberg also sought to cut ties with Habba in March.

“He’s replacing her with Armen Morian, another Trumpland regular. Morian represented Trump’s business entities in the civil fraud case, per the docket,” Eric Uebelacker wrote at the time.
