Starbucks Closing 8,000 Stores to Provide Racial-bias Training

Starbucks says it will close its 8,000 U.S. coffee shops on the afternoon of May 29 to provide racial-bias training to its employees, CNN Money reports. The announcement follows the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia location who were waiting for a friend without having ordered anything. The manager, who no longer works at that store, called the police. The chain said the training would be designed with input from former Attorney General Eric Holder and the NAACP. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson also apologized in a meeting with the men, who were arrested for trespassing and later released with no charges filed.
